Palms & Pelicans

Hampshire based band Palms & Pelicans have just released a second single from their forthcoming EP, the single is a follow up to “Drowsy” released in January of this year. The single is called “Evaporate” has a concept video (inspired by the classic George Orwell novel, 1984) has been produced by band member, Jack Lawrence and co-directed by the band. Amongst VHS style white noise, the video depicts the tale of the band searching their home for hidden cameras ñ they have a sneaky suspicion somebody is watching in them and they may well be right. The bands extensive influences stretch from the hazy shoegaze sounds of The Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine to the melodic, poppier tones of singer/songwriter Imogen Heap.

The single features the bands ever-evolving guitar sounds with shimmering atmospheric fuzzed guitar effects over cascading vocals coupled with hard hitting drums and stirring basslines. The foursome have quite a solid chemistry and when they all get in the studio together some serious magic happens and they produce little gems like this. Their shoegaze influences seem to be having quite a revival this year with new albums from both Ride and Slowdive on the way. Palms & Pelicans could easily benefit from the renewed interest in this scene. There is eager support from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 6 and Amazing Radio, as well as recent overseas Canadian airplay, Palms and Pelicans are heading for a busy summer, packed with releases and festival dates.
