Shoot The Duke

Portsmouth based 4-piece roots, rhythm and blues band “Shoot the Duke” have announced the release of a new single on 9th April. The tune “Strange Again” is the first track that has been entirley written together as a band. They like to be challenged and don’t try and stick to a set comfort zone, freely experimenting with their sound. The band first got together in 2014 and was formed by frontman Tom Bryan and guitarist Neil Cripps, who were originally an acoustic duo. As the duo gigged they continued to gain a fast momentum and recruited their rhythm section of James Collins (Bass) and Rob Whale (Drums). Last year they performed at multiple festivals including Victorious festival, Wonkydonk and Camping be Cider Seaside.

The single was recorded at the Ranch Production House in Southampton and shows the foursome coming of age as a complete unit. The track opens with some simple acoustic guitar work and is then joined by some infectious foot-tapping rhythm’s along with some nicely integrated electric guitar. Tom Bryan’s uniquely rasping vocals holding everything together beautifully before the band just completely let loose, upping the pace to breakneck speed before slowing down once again to a natural close. The track works equally well when the band play it live in front of an audience and I’m sure will become a live favourite.

The future is looking bright and this year Shoot The Duke has a busy year ahead with the release of two further new tracks along with slots at major festivals including Hanwell Hootie, Southcider and Boomtown Fair. The band also have their own headline show at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth on the 6th May.
