This month sees the release of a new single by Dorset band “Mad Simple”, those who have seen the band live will recognise the track as being a staple part of the band’s current live set. The track entitled “Higher Ground” is not a cover of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers number of the same name, but a self penned original. The track was written quite a while ago, around the time of collective struggle for all those locked down during Covid-19.
Band founder member Craig explains “music was the answer for many to seek deeper feeling and escape and to provide a substitute for those far removed from their loved ones. This song embodies the deep yearning for that human connection live music brings. It’s a protest song, that no amount of draconian/dystopian regulation forced upon us, control can be brought back again – the power is in our hands, we will not forget or be fooled again. Higher Ground inspires hope to all who champion compassion, integrity & soul to give the ammunition to those during the many battles we still face today, to help us rise together against the forces that continue to conspire against us”
There is no intro or fade, the track is straight in-yer-face from the start! During “In The Night” Craig sings and captures your attention immediately. The driving basslines and drums get your feet tapping while the guitar generates some pleasing infectious melodies. It’s something not unlike the Kaiser Chiefs would create, it’s bold, uplifting and deserving of a shot at getting heard on some national mainstream radio stations. A few listens of this and I’m sure listeners will take this track to their heart. A fine effort from this great bunch of musicians who just seem to be getting better and better.
