SIngle Review: “San Francisco Bay” by Yellowgroove

Yellowgroove

Whilst in my small room at my University in Wales, I was asked to review ‘San Francisco Bay’, which is the latest single by a band called Yellowgroove, who are a Bournemouth/Bristol based group that fork out folky blues-rock grooves that lick the ladle of bands like Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Cream, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

O2 Academy Bournemouth

Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran, one of the UK’s biggest up and coming acts has got bigger than we ever could have imagined over the past year, and pretty much all over one song hailed by radio one, The A Team. After failing – and consequently sobbing – to grab tickets for his performance last year in Bournemouth at The Old Fire Station,I made it my life’s goal to see him in 2011, along with an absolutely rammed O2 Academy Bournemouth.

EP: “Da Vinci’s Demise” by Saint [The]Sinner

on September 24th, 2011 at 13:33
Posted In: CD, Reviews, George

Once in a while, a band forms in the small town of Bournemouth that really excites me. This time round its electronic metalcore locals, Saint[The]Sinner, a band who clearly must be amazing as they have square brackets in their band name. But in all seriousness, after hearing their first track they put online, in the form of ‘Yeah…Even The Mona Lisa is Falling’. I was very interested in hearing what this band has to offer in the long term. The track was a bit rough around the edges at times, but the brutal offerings didn’t disappoint, and for a first track, it was one hell of an effort.

Peace Love & Gloves formed through a nucleus of Mark Mullady and Rikki Colegate, who emerged from the suburbs of Bournemouth to form the band, with drummer Jason Gordon and bass player Bradley Gillham who complete the line up. The band have been tearing through a host of venues around the town with their highly vocal band of fans who follow them at every opportunity. It is really one huge family called the ‘Gloves & Glovettes’ who go to the gigs for a huge fun night out.

Burn The Fleet/I Am Forever/Ashestonangels/Saint[The]Sinner

Champions, Bournemouth

Burn The Fleet

One of Southampton’s finest exports Burn The Fleet are back to finally headline at Champions, after their last successful show here in December 2010 supporting local up coming Bournemouth band Death Of An Artist. They have this year toured the UK with the mighty Don Broco with further tours into Europe planned this Autumn/Winter with also the rumoured release their much anticipated debut album. There have been three fine support acts lined up and the first of these to take to the stage are Saint[The] Sinner who are a newly emerged local Bournemouth band. They have a hardcore sound with full on guitars and screamo vocals with well mixed classical backing soundtracks which strangely mix well into their live sound. This style has always been more a niche until bands like ‘Bring Me The Horizon’ brought it to the masses and by the look of this years set they played a the Reading Festival it is certainly growing at a frantic pace.

Robin Trower

Robin Trower’s ‘The Playful Heart Tour’ comes to the Brook in Southampton on 6th October 2011

Robin Trower, one of the most justly-acclaimed of British Rock music’s elder statesmen, released his latest album The Playful Heart on the Repertoire Records label in May 2011.

During the forty-odd years since his departure from Procol Harum, the unassuming Robin Trower has assembled an incredible body of work. From his commercial high-water mark with the epochal Bridge of Sighs in 1974, through to the brand new The Playful Heart. His music has never attempted to make concessions to commercial demands, and his improvisational skills have consistently re-set the bar in terms of blues-soaked inspiration and intensity.
