C-30’s

Chaplin’s Cellar Bar, Boscombe, Bournemouth

After a Saturday evening at the O2 Academy spent in the company of The Who’s Roger Daltery, I was not ready just yet to retire to my bed, a quick drink was in order as it was Saturday night ,just across the road from the 02 in a great place called Chaplin’s Cellar Bar. I had almost forgotten that there was a band playing: Bournemouth’s very own punk rockers the C-30’s were already up on the stage running through a set of energetic punk fuelled numbers with lots of excited people on the beer soaked dance floor.

Champions, Bournemouth

It’s St Patrick’s Day and Champions in Bournemouth have the Irish traditional drink Guinness at £2.50 a pint in celebration of the day, which will certainly helps make the evening go with a swing. Tonight we have three of Bournemouth’s major rock acts for the evenings entertainment.

The Primitives/The Morphic Fields/Subdued

The Joiners Arms, Southampton

We arrive at the venue at around 8.10 to find tonight’s openers Subdued are already on stage. With no band info to hand I’ll assume this 3 piece are Southampton-based. The sound is distinctly rock & somewhat heavy in places, mixed in with some heartfelt lyrics on a couple of numbers. Looking around me there’s barely 20 in attendance, one hopes the headliners swell the numbers. Subdued continue playing uncomplicated rock in a somewhat ‘subdued’ (sic) way! There’s hints of Pearl Jam in at least 2 of the songs but they end to warm applause.

Not Advised/Checking Pulse/I Met Nature

on March 11th, 2011 at 22:29

iBar, Bournemouth

Walking to iBar, I have to stop and actually think about what I’m seeing. There is a queue going out the door of the intimate venue which can’t help probe the thought that Not Advised are certainly moving up in the world, as most of the dates on their latest tour sold out at venues which are twice the size of iBar. On a frantic Friday, there’s nothing like a pop punk gig to get you in the mood for the weekend and the venue was packed to the capacity as a final push of, on the door sales saw the show sell out.

The Levellers/The Wonder Stuff

Bournemouth 02 Academy

In the current days of recession with money being very hard to come by, music promoters have to come up with ways of getting people out of their living rooms and into the music venues and combining bands on one tour is certainly a great way to bring people through the door. I really don’t know why they have not done it before, it just makes sense The Levellers and The Wonder Stuff just fit together so well, two great folk rock bands making for one great night.
