Formed in 2017 South Coast four-piece Who’s Amy? is riding their Halloween-themed rollercoaster with a new horror-inspired debut EP Graveyard Shift. The seven-track offering blends countless genres and displays the band’s mix of creative styles. The EP was recorded and produced completely independently by the band’s guitarist Liam Flower over the last year and a half.

After playing around with more general lyric ideas, the band found their stride when the slasher-horror inspired “Count Your Days” was written. The band found a new burst of inspiration writing similarly themed songs. Since forming they have enjoyed some success within the local music scene. They have performed both headline shows, as well as supporting established acts such as Monster Logic, Cause for Control, Regional One, Drallion, Opalites and Mad Simple.

The track opens in a sinister, cinematic soundtrack style; before spooky sounds lead you into the opening number “Gravedigger”. The infectious rolling guitar melody, coupled with the rhythms are joined by Amy’s stirring vocal provides the lyrics with a double entendre twist. “Party Ghoul” shows the band moving into much more upbeat territory with this popular track, which is a mainstay of the band’s live set. It features some creative effect-fed guitars, accompanied by some neat bass and drum parts; certainly a track that after a few listens gets under your skin.

With its fairground-style intro and it’s time signature of 3/4 time; “Alone With Me” is a real spine-tingling waltz. Amy delivers a few goosebump moments with some sinisterly atmospheric vocals that sound like a lot of time and effort were put into the construction of this standout track of the collection. After some static from the airwaves, the musical-inspired “Cobwebs” shows the band bringing in some piano keys to accompany their usual rudiments. It’s a track that shows the band maturing with some fresh ideas and a coming together of all the combined creative skills.

“Bones” sounds like a throwback of a combination of Punk/Pop and Emo influences; like a teen bedroom anthem with powerful lyrics, all the better for this stripped-back sound. It is a great tune that really works in this form and quite a surprisingly welcome break from the band’s fast-paced material. The final number “Fangs” returns to the bands Rock influences, ending this collection in some style with some vampire-inspired lyrically imaginative words.

These guys have clearly worked hard on every aspect of this debut EP, with the results showing a stimulating collection of tracks that are as appealing as they are engaging. This quartet have worked to their strengths and come up with something that they can be proud of and use it as a stepping stone to press on with their future musical goals.
