After the release of their fine album “While The Iron Is Cold And The Heart Is Sore”; Burg & The Vagabond Choir’s creative juices have started flowing again and the fruits of this have brought a new single entitled “Lovers Grave”. The band describe themselves as “bringing forth the affects of demon water and tales of oblivion. Burnt bones, life, death and songs of hope for the hopeless”. The band’s pragmatist Steve Lynch is very active on the Dorset music scene. He also can be found in his garage band The Electric Shakes and his 2-piece death n’ roll sludgefest band The Dukes Of Hades.
Burg & The Vagabond Choir went into Hawkeye Houlihan’s Oak Studios in the countryside in Lytchett Matravers, Dorset to create the track. Clearly the place gibes off the right vibes and ambience to bring together this type of sound. Steve “aka” Burg performs on the recording along with his hand-picked musicians Wez, Jay, Romeo, Voodoo Lou and Martin. Dean Hennessey at We Film Reality Film & Video Productions has created an wonderfully atmospheric video to match the track, which can be seen below.

The tune opens with a glorious burst of brass… trumpet and trombone, before being joined by violin, ukulele, double bass and acoustic guitar. Steve’s well executed vintage sounding vocals match the beautifully layered instrumentation perfectly. The whole piece has a 1950’s feel to it and very much comes under the Dark/Folk monocle. Romeo Kennedy’s finger work on the ukulele is one on the highlights, along with the constant background melodies from Voodoo Lou’s violin.
“Lovers Grave” is out now and you purchase the track here.
