Wave Chase frontman, Dorset based George Kingman has already released a quartet of fine singles including “Jump The Gun”, “Pure Honey”, “Only You” and “Dreams Of Tomorrow”. This has recently been followed up by another track called “Smile”.

George explains “I set out to create something that captures the essence of a Phil Spector production, that iconic “Wall of Sound” with its lush, euphoric textures. The drum intro is a deliberate homage to classics like “Be My Baby” and “Don’t Worry Baby” by The Beach Boys. There’s something so captivating about those songs: they radiate joy and youthful energy on the surface; but beneath all that shimmer, the lyrics often explore much darker, more complex emotions around love and relationships. I wanted to channel that same contrast, like something that sounds uplifting but carries an emotional weight when you really listen”.

The layered sounds of the tune, particularly the way the piano intertwines with the guitars and the catchy rhythms grab you, giving the tune a fairground feel to it. George has somehow magically been reincarnated from the swinging sixties as he shows that he has a knack with both his voice and his instrumentation to give the music a nostalgic feel, along with an upbeat quality.

There is a real depth to the tune and despite the nostalgia elements, it has a unique quality. The track has a wide-ranging appeal and is just the tip of the iceberg of what this young musician full of ability can offer. If you were expecting his material to sound anything close to Wave Chase you’d be mistaken, George has chosen to turn a corner and carve something completely different out. George will be releasing a final single towards the end of this Summer, to complete the debut EP and getting that released into the world.
