Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth

Philadelphia pop punksters The Wonder Years are making this stop in Portsmouth part way through their 1st headline UK Tour after a few previous trips across the Atlantic to perform on the Relentless Kerrang Tour with Good Charlotte and a tour with “Four Year Strong” which included a memorable show here at the Wedgewood Rooms. The Band are currently riding on crest of a wave with their recently released album Suburbia: I’ve Given You All and Now I’m Nothing the follow up to their 2010 release “The Upsides”. Preview: Robin Trower at the Brook

Robin Trower

Robin Trower’s ‘The Playful Heart Tour’ comes to the Brook in Southampton on 6th October 2011

Robin Trower, one of the most justly-acclaimed of British Rock music’s elder statesmen, released his latest album The Playful Heart on the Repertoire Records label in May 2011.

During the forty-odd years since his departure from Procol Harum, the unassuming Robin Trower has assembled an incredible body of work. From his commercial high-water mark with the epochal Bridge of Sighs in 1974, through to the brand new The Playful Heart. His music has never attempted to make concessions to commercial demands, and his improvisational skills have consistently re-set the bar in terms of blues-soaked inspiration and intensity.

Preview: Bigface Reggae

Bigface Reggae could quite possibly provide the soundtrack to the Dorset summer of 2011 with appearances at all the local festivals Endorse It In Dorset, Dorset Great Steam Fair, Grooves on The Green and Wind Fest. The band are fronted by the two of the most talented front men Si Genaro and Si Crocket who together with their band give just one of the most uplifting live performances their totally original style is just something that could not be compared to anything that has been before.

Panic Room

A mild Thursday night & we are looking forward to the long awaited return to these shores of Northern rockers ‘David R. Black’. Sadly they’ve decided on a no show & ‘apparently’ not bothered letting the venue know either! Great start-not! As a last minute replacement we welcome on stage a covers band in the shape of ‘Vending Machine Repairmen’. Great name, nothing like having a moniker that couldn’t describe you less! They are a confident 5 piece who play well known covers from down the years. I’m not overkeen on the guitars however, there’s a real keyboard-esque element to the sound. This aside they are a decent warm-up for the headliners and end their set with the Hazel O’Connor classic ‘Will You’.

Musicosity Festival – Not Advised/Canada Water/Checking Pulse/We Start Partys/Let’s Go Safari

Old Fire Station, Bournemouth

Well this is my first review in a while! And what a way to come back to reviewing since returning from Reading Festival, as The Old Fire Station hosted one of the main events at The Musicosity Festival on the Sunday. Sadly, Fridays line-up received a small crowd of around twenty five people according to sources I was told, but I was determined the atmosphere would pick up after Not Advised’s last visit to Bournemouth resulted in a sell-out iBar show. The Southampton based pop punk outfit will have been brimming with confidence as the last crowd they had were more than happy to sing along and get moving.
