Pirate fun & fundraising as ‘Paye Day’ returns to Poole Quay on 20th June

Harry Paye Day

Avast me harties! Tis time for land lubbers to dig out yer eye patch, earring and cutlass for Poole’s annual celebration on 20 June, of its favourite pirate son Harry Paye.

Organised by the Pirates of Poole and supported by Poole Tourism, the popular shindig gets underway from 12 under the noon day sun with the Parade of Pirates along Poole Quay, with the Mayor of Poole Cllr Anne Stribley judging the Pirate Fancy Dress at 1pm.

Sponsored by Coles Miller Solicitors and Jenkins Marine, the charity event is part of Poole’s Wave 105 Summertime in the South events; where visitors can see cannon and musket displays, followed by belly dancers or try their luck on the traditional Aunt Sally stall. There’s plenty for children with a fancy dress competition, rides, a teddy bear stall and face painting.

Sample the finest grog along the quayside’s traditional pubs, bars and restaurants and listen to a salty sea shanty or two with live music from local bands as follows:

Fish Shambles Area
1200: Pronghorn
1400: Innocent Bystander
1530: Icarus
1700: The RedCrow

Main Stage
1240: Spiderpig
1430: Orgi & The Cafe Racers
1600: Vintage Dog

STS Tenacious will be berthed on the Quay 19-21 June as part of the event.

Events finish at 6pm and this year Paye Daye is helping to raise money for local Poole charities, Poole RNLI Lifeboat Station, Forest Holme Hospice and Victoria School. Bruce Grant-Braham, Chairman of the Poole Tourism Partnership said: “Paye Day is a fantastic family event that gets everyone out and celebrating Poole’s rich history. There’s so much to see and everyone really gets into the spirit. So get practicing your pirate speak, dig out your fancy dress and let your inner pirate loose!”

On the day Poole Quay will be closed to traffic from 9am and will re-open by 7pm.
