Drift Micro Bar

Shannon White

After my first visit here on Good Friday I am back within 48 hours for some more of the Drift Micro Bar’s warm hospitality and some live music from Poole singer-songwriter Shannon White. It is after all Easter Sunday and tomorrow most of us have the luxury of bank Holiday Monday off work. Shannon is trying to establish herself as a name in the local music scene and has performed at a host of events including open mic’s, along with a local radio session with Hope FM. This particular gig was secured after just walking in off the street and just asking the owners if she could perform. The first gig went so well they invited her back for a 2nd time.

Shannon kicks of at 9pm with a cover of Billy Bragg’s “To Have and To Have Not”. Tonight’s audience are going to be tough as although they are seemingly enjoying the music but also want to chat over the performance. To those paying close attention Shannon delivers two heartfelt originals “Sense of Shame” and “A couple of Years”, songs that show a good deal of potential. To be fair there could be more audience interation, but as she is only in her early 20’s this will I’m sure come with experience.

After a short break the second half of the set brings some classic well-played tracks including The Clash’s “London Calling”, Bob Dylan’s three chord wonder “Knockin’ on Heavens Door” and a slowed-down, great reworking of the Foo Fighters “Times Like These”. Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” gives the inibriated in the audience a chance for a drunken sing-a-long. Shannon is an unpolished diamond who if follows the right direction whether it be solo or in a band could exceed her own expextations.
