Mechner

Keeping his cards very close to his chest “Mechner’s Do You Wanna Go” is the first of a mini-LP collection entitled “Club Idem”. The first of five releases that apparently combine to form a deft critique of a culture that by its very nature, can’t sit still. Mechner describes this aperitif as a hedonistic social experience as enticing as it is excessive. Mechner is the latest foray for Cork-based artist Jack Ahern, characterised as “Radiohead meets David Lynch” by John Loftus of 8 Radio. He completely self-funded and self-produced his debut single “Surfacing”, notable for its music video which garnered over 25k views and was included in Indie Cork’s Film Festival to a great crowd reaction. Mechner has earned support slots with the likes of Dermot Kennedy, Delerentos and The Coronas amongst many others.

“Do You Wanna Go” is a track about the “animalistic side” and “ritualization” of modern music, the clubbing scene along with the herd mentality that goes with it. It represents the feeling of complete loneliness in a large crowd and it’s rallying cry is “Do you wanna go? The tune features underlying darkness coming from its belly, while the hypnotic rhythms and infectious guitar riffs show it is not all doom. You could draw similarities with acts like Gene, Suede, The Smiths and so on. The tune has taken these and other influences to carve out a sound of its own which will radiate with those lurkers from the dark corners of the Indie disco. Its DNA certainly pulls you in, making you curious about what sort of journey “Club Idem” with give you.
