British South Coast troubadour Lloyd McGuigan comes to us with a large helping of Americana, coupled with a side dish of Country along with some significant Blues flavourings. The singer/songwriter this month releases his debut single ‘My Father’s Words’; the emotive from the heart song features some enchanting lyrics as a tribute to Lloyd’s late Father, who passed away when he was younger. Lloyd says without his father “I wouldn’t be the man I am today”.

The track mixes mellow laid back electric and acoustic guitars with simplistic rhythms; which are coupled with Lloyd’s unique Country-styled bourbon fuelled vocal. The song incorporates some traditional Roots music styles and displays the artist throwing himself at the mercy of his audience, with a personal song that digs deep from his feelings about the loss of his Father at an early age. If his Father only had the chance to hear this composition, I’m sure he would have told Lloyd how proud he was that he has taken on board his wise words.

Songs like this are keepers and worth holding onto in times of need, another example of this type of song is “Things My Father Said” by Black Stone Cherry – a track that helped me in the grieving process when I lost my own Father. It helped conjure up thoughts and happy memories that have been swept to the back of our subconscious as our busy lives take over.

There is plenty of impressive creativity and lots of potential for the future. Lloyd can be found performing at a whole host of live shows around the Bournemouth area in the coming months and is certainly worth checking out, an artist worth keeping a close eye on.
