After the release of their summer anthem “12 Months Out” in August, The Lonely Surf are set to release their next single ‘Happiness’ on Friday 15th December. Melancholic overtones sealed within infectious hooks are a trademark of the band that have gained them acclaim from mainstream media outlets (including BBC Introducing, Kerrang and Amazing Radio) and over 800,000 streams online. They’ve graced major festivals (BBC Introducing Live, Teddy Rocks, Gold Coast Oceanfest), toured with Ducking Punches and The Deadnotes, as well as shared a stage with the likes of The Beths, Trash Boat and This Wild Life.

Showcasing another side to their indie punk sound, ‘Happiness’ wears a tinge of alt rock on its sleeve. Strong influences of The Menzingers, The Wombats and Bruce Springsteen are still evident in the song’s honest lyricism and infectious melodies, but this record boasts the sort of driving chorus you’d expect from Twin Atlantic or You Me At Six. Speaking on the track, frontman Dom Wright said: “Happiness is a song about moving on from relationships and reflecting on times when you could have done better. It’s also about the weird stages you go through after a relationship ends and losing sight of what gives you your sense of self.”

The single was recorded at The Ranch Production House with Daly George in Southampton, where bands such as Creeper and The Winter Passing have captured their sound. It is being released on Disconnect Disconnect Records, an independent, UK-based punk rock label.
