Alternative London singer/songwriter Benji Taylor has released a new single entitled “Race Horse (Keep It Simple)”. The track was created with a complete DIY ethos with Benji writing, producing, mixing, mastering and recording – all in his own living room.
Benji Explains “it’s very simple, such as the lyrics ‘keep it simple’ state. It’s about trying to be honest with yourself and those around you. Not making up excuses and in turn affecting those you care about and yourself in a negative way. It’s also related to feeling you have a skill or passion but you waste it by sitting around or spending too much time debating whether it’s worth putting your art/music out there. The lyrics ‘Racing horse at snail speed’ signifies this. Giving the idea that you have all the makings of a Race Horse: strength, speed, determination, grit, but you’re going at a snail’s pace and not living up to your full potential”.

This artist enjoys experimentation with his sound and each track has their own unique vibe. This track is no different and is quite a departure from his previous offerings. I’ve always liked Benji’s vocals, they have dark alternative qualities and this track is backed by the simplistic sound of just electric guitar, which provides a vintage retro feel. It speeds up to a mild crescendo and Benji shows his worth with a fine solo to end on. The lyrics are certainly autobiographical and this deep thinking artist ponders his musical career.
