A fantastic grassroots night of live music unfolded at The Hobbit Pub in Southampton, with three local bands all competing for our attention—and winning it.

Butcher The Butcher continue to impress with their progressive metal sound, delivering both entertainment and musical depth in equal measure. The intricate guitar work shines throughout, backed by a powerful and tight rhythm section. Frontman JC, sporting platform DMs and a Justin Bieber shirt, commands the stage with confidence and charisma, adding a unique flair to their already engaging performance.

Despite being one member down, The Surge brought their A-game. Adrian Saunders worked overtime with his array of effects pedals, expertly filling the sonic space. All eyes, however, were on Queeie, whose striking presence and electrifying vocals came in waves of intensity. Tracks like the explosive new single “Rain Keeps Falling” and the live favourite “Rich Girl” showcased the band’s creativity and resilience.

The night also marked the official launch of Dorset-based Devilsky’s self-titled debut EP. Founder Si Davey set out to prove that it’s never too late to chase your dreams, and alongside his bandmates—each bringing experience from a more seasoned generation—they did exactly that. Blending metal, grunge, and punk influences, Devilsky delivered a set packed with high-energy originals tackling a range of themes. The crowd also enjoyed a couple of well-chosen covers from Killing Joke and Drowning Pool. A standout moment came with Ian’s bassline on “War at My Door”—powerful, atmospheric, and deeply foreboding. Add in some impressive guitar solos and a frontman brimming with energy, and you have a band that leaves a lasting impression.
