CD: “Trials” by Mutiny On The Bounty

Mutiny On the Bounty

Instead of following the usual schematic of band bios let’s ask the opinion of someone experienced, Matt Bayles for example. He not only produced “Trials”, the second album of MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY, but also records by ISIS, MASTODON, RUSSIAN CIRCLES, THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES, THE FALL OF TROY or BOTCH. We can then legitimately assume he knows what he’s talking about. “MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY plays technical and accessible indie rock, somewhere between MINUS THE BEAR and THE BLOOD BROTHERS with some elements of post-rock”.

The Bones

So here we have a Swedish punk band, who are apparently big in Germany, and growing in popularity in Europe. “Monkeys with Guns” is their 5th studio album, and I have to be honest, I have never heard of them before. So no references to their back catalogue here! With “Monkeys with Guns” they have produced a high energy fuelled pop-punk-rock album that although is easily consumed, and easy to listen, is admittedly catchy and fun. I found myself enjoying it more and more with each listen.

I arrive at the Forum at midday as my assignment is to shoot photo’s of the set up for a production piece on the difficulties of setting up the stadium KISS show in a tiny venue, apparently the smallest they’ve played in 40 years.

Rockin For Nic's Wheels

In July 2011 a caring group of family and friends got together to help out young Nic Charge who needed to specially designed wheelchair to help him do everyday things that most of us just simply take for granted. A gig was arranged with called “Rockin’ For Nic’s Wheels”, a good deal of money was rasied to go towards buying Nic his chair, which cost in excess of £10,000 more than an average priced family car, a second event was arranged for this year to continue with Nic’s on going care. The evening started with a moment that filled everyone with pride as Nic took centre stage in an emotional moment by demonstrating his new hi-tech and what it was capable of.

Skyharbor

Hailing from New Deli, India, Skyharbour is the brain child of guitarist Keshav Dhar. A three piece outfit which also has: Anup Sastry on drums and Nikhil Rufus on bass. By all accounts they are rapidly gaining a reputation as one of India’s hottest up and coming Metal acts and having been signed up by Britainís own Basic Records are looking to make waves over here as well.
