We Are Shit

When you call your band “Shit” you are just asking for trouble, just imagine it, they have played a stormer of a set and have just left the stage, the audience are demanding encore…what do they shout “Shit Shit Shit”, you can take that one of two ways. Well actually there is a band called “Shit”, and they hail for the seaside town of Poole and you just might know the founder member….Yes it’s local face Bert Brunell who does a Stirling job putting on fine bands at Mr Kyps, surrounded by all this fine music you think Bert would have some great influences to draw on and would make a fine member of any band…………….

Miles and Erica

Mr. Kyps, Poole

Miles and Erica

In October 2011 Miles Hunt & Erica Nockalls of The Wonder Stuff were invited to play an intimate acoustic show at Mr Kyps, the evening went so well that they have returned by request to play on the larger main stage. Tonight’s audience have certainly increased from the last and as the expectant crowd await the 1st act of the night, an announcement is made by the house DJ that the support act has not turned up, disappointingly there is long wait until Miles & Erica take to the stage. It is a great shame that a local act could not have been contacted at the last minute as I’m sure there are many acts out there who would only been too pleased to take up this slot.

The Cellar, Southampton

Prong

First time at The Cellar in Southampton, it’s just across the road from the Guildhall. It boasts a nice stage in a long room, the drinks are a bit pricey but there was a pretty good vibe about the place.

William Control

William Control is returning to the UK for a run of 11 shows in support of his latest solo effort, “Silentium Amoris”, in addition he will be playing at Download Festival next month, headlining the Red Bull Bedroom Jam stage on June 10.

The new record, “Silentium Amoris”, is a twelve-track journey about finding a voice in the rubble of a broken world. It is a stepping-stone in the development of a protagonist who is seeking revenge, melting together dark, cinematic themes with experimental synth pop sounds. Maintaining aggressive elements of the industrial dance sound, the LP infuses a new wave sensibility reminiscent of New Order, Bauhaus, Gary Numan, and Depeche Mode.

EP: “Torn Between Lives” by Sansara

Sansara

So, onto Sansara then. Well for a start, who are they? My answer, a very recently formed (We’re talking October last year) hard rock band from around Bournemouth, who have just finished their EP, “Torn Between Lives”. This three track affair is claiming to be “A barrage of big hitting songs that resonate through the ears like a mini tornado”. Needless to say, I dived right in, I love me some sonic ear tornado.

The Rapids

Bear with me for this…

So I personally like to think that I’m a fairly peaceful guy, not a fan of confrontation, and would just sort of sit down and cry if I got in a fight.

However, it’s a less than perfect world we live in, and I’m sure the day where I get my face punched in isn’t too far away. It’s just fate, or destiny or genetics or something.

The Anvil, Bournemouth

Featuring: Nepalese Temple Bell/Skeleton/Caravan Of Whores/XII Boar/Desert Storm/Witch Sorrow

VenomFest

Bournemouth’s Doomheads had gathered at The Anvil on a Saturday night to pay homage to some of the best unsigned Stoner-Doom bands that Dorset and the surrounding counties have to offer. With six bands on the bill everyone was looking forward to an evening of good music and cheap drinks with a well laid back atmosphere. Nepalese Temple Ball were the first band on and started by saying that they were without a vocalist because he had had to go to a wedding, even sans singer they played a good set that was very atmospheric.

CD: “Another Story High” by Me

Me

Aussie Retro-ists Me have a mini album out and it might just be the most interesting music you hear in a while. Influences will cover a wide range of the spectrum but to this reviewer one or two stand out. On opener ‘Naked’ its the high notes in the vocal that remind of Justin Hawkins, sung over the music of Suede! Sounds a bizarre combination but ME are clearly out to surprise (or confuse) us!!

Dan Hammond Smith

It’s acoustic night at the Winchester and local promoter Dom Patience of “Chalk Inc. Promotions” has gathered together a diverse line up of acts for the evening’s entertainment. Tonight’s headliner is none other than Dan Hammond Smith of The Frequency and formerly of The Other half, this is Dan’s first excursion into solo acoustic performance, and he has promised to bring along a few guests to help him out. The Frequency are currently preparing to release their as yet unnamed debut album on the 1st June when they play Mr Kyps in Poole supporting the “Pigeon Detectives”
