William Control

If you aren’t yet aware of the huge impact William Control is making, you must be living under a rock; the kind of rock exploding in synths, and covered in black lace.

Driving down the road on the 15th June, it was obvious which building was Southampton Joiners as the mass of people in black, red and grey seemed to be a dark luminous signpost defining that this was indeed the venue that William Control was playing at that evening.

Wil Francis was born in Seattle, Washington on 8th January 1982, he is the lead singer of post hardcore band Aiden which he joined in 2005 after the original singer quit the band, Aiden have released 8 albums and toured the world consistently performing with a host of big name bands. In 2008 Wil started an electronic project called “William Control”, the debut album called “Hate Culture” is the story of a man named William Control and his last night on Earth because he wishes to kill himself.

Mothership

Thursday Nights at Chaplin’s means “Rubber Soul” a platform by promoter Conrad Barr to showcase locals bands from in and around the local Dorset area. Tonight first band are Bournemouth 3 piece “Hooligan Choir” who recently impressed a Sold Out crowd at Mr Kyps in Poole when supporting the mighty “Pigeon Detectives”. The band arrive onstage full of youthful arrogance in the way that the way Paul Weller did in the early days of The Jam or more recently The Enemy.

The band follow up their first single “Wait For The Storm”, a folky-rock melancholic reflection on life with type III Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, with an angrier rock/metal reflection on life with type III Ehlers-Danlos syndrome…

If in the 90’s you were fans of bands such as Mega City Four, Neds Atomic Dustbin and Senseless Things you cannot have failed to come across Midway Still. After only performing 8 gigs the band were subject of plenty of record company interest after a favourable review in Melody Maker, they finally signed to Fire Records subsidiary Roughneck. The band set off on huge tours in Europe with Therapy, Mega City Four, Leatherface and Snuff to name but a few.

After a vexed past, The Talking Heads put aside previous memories of the venue’s misfortune and financial struggles to make way for arguably the juiciest lineup the venue has seen in a while. The ever popular Wheatus are back with previous tour buddy MC Lars to make sure their reputations as established UK touring acts remain intact. It is worth mentioning that when this venue is packed out, it is an amazing sight; we should make sure this happens more often!

News: New Model Army

Cult rock legends, New Model Army celebrated the first weekend with their new bassist, Ceri Monger with a festival warm-up gig at Robin 2 in Bilston, Wolverhampton last Saturday 2nd June.

Unfortunately their van was broken into that night in the carpark outside the Walsall Holiday Inn Express, and a large number of items were stolen. With gear borrowed from other groups, the band still managed to perform at Strummercamp the following day.
