Regular readers will know that Nory-J is the Indie/Dream Pop pseudonym of the South Coast based British musician Jack Spooner; whose artistry has found itself with praise from a host of national radio stations, announces his first single release of 2024.

The song is called “Apology” set for release on February 16th and features a collaboration with fellow Dorset singer/songwriter Melissa Rose aka Melrose. The song is loosely based around the story of the award-winning film “La La Land” and paints the picture of two the star-crossed scholars who fail to survive due to their own personal journeys. The track is part of Nory J’s Sophomore EP release ‘Dreary Boy’ as premiered with his live band at Boiler Room Records in Poole High Street, supported by top class local live band Soulhole.

“Apology” once again shows the envelope being pushed further with the Dream Pop landscape being populated with atmospheric guitar, created by using an E-bow. You’ll also hear wailing synths and a glockenspiel to drive home and touch the heartstrings of Sebastian and Mia’s love story. The film’s tag line explained that “They fell in love, and still feel the same way about each other – but they were simply not meant to be, except for in their dreams”. The song with its clever instrumentation picks up from the vibes running through the musical movie starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

The two artists combine their significant skills to provide a unique sounding piece of work, that creates an ambience for the feelings of two of the film’s protagonists. The vocals combine effectively and float over the dreamy sound of the hypnotic guitars and Synths, coupled with the understated rhythms. It’s great to see an artist creating a piece of music using quite unique subject matter and then joining forces with a fellow artist to bring the project so wonderfully to life.
