Those loveable rogues from the Midlands Spunk Volcano & the Eruptions are back with yet another great single that champions the days when Saturday afternoon Wrestling was a staple on ITV’s “World of Sport” with Dickie Davies in the 1970’s. Yep, this is unapologetic nostalgia set to a Punk Rock beat. We even get the opening chants of “Easy, Easy” from back in the day when Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy ruled the ring before an early expletive from the Spunkman himself. Huge drum thrashing from sticksman Maff throughout, aligned to fast chugging chords from Bones, and G Force (guitars) and Joey (bass) respectively.
…and where would we be without the obligatory mid-song noodlefest in the bridge. Ok so there’s nothing here one won’t have heard before, but it does have live gig sing-a-long kudos in spades. The “Easy, Easy’s” in the chorus will be sung long and loud at gigs and those of us of a certain age will get the humour/nostalgia angle. Latterly the more famous Wrestling names get a mention and this doesn’t detract from what is another cracking, fast-paced single from this workaholic quintet. Maff (drums) thunderous hitting is the perfect finale and we can look forward to the next instalment from Spunk Volcano & the Eruptions.
At a risk of repeating myself SV and the Eruptions can do no wrong and when you have a winning formula then why change? This is classic Spunk Volcano & the Eruptions at their finest – go out and buy this record, buy two!! Some notable tour supports of late won’t have harmed their enthusiasm as they continue their path to dining at Punk’s top table. Sometimes the best Punk Rock comes from the DIY sector and without exception these guys are at the very top of the tree.
