With possibly one of the best names currently out there on the local music scene “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Better” from Bournemouth arrive with bucketloads of enthusiasm. Initially formed last year by long time friends James Longcake, Jo Papworth and Josh Whitham, after all three unexpectedly moved to Bournemouth in a wonderous turn of fate, their line-up was then completed with local sound engineer Nick Scott taking up the drummer vacancy.
The band have already performed successfully a few support gigs at the Bear Cave and the had also started working on their debut EP last year. The songs were written and produced by James in his home studio, with mixing duties performed by James and the mastering by Brighton engineer Toby Campen .
The first single from this upcoming EP is a tune called “Doubt”, a Hardcore and Pop/Punk-influenced song with lyrical themes exploring the final days of a relationship. Jamie explains “the song aims to express that moment when you look someone in the eyes and see that you both know that these might be the final days you spend together”. The track combines effect-enhanced, distorted dual guitars; with electronic vocal enhancements, with stacked layered harmonies.
The tune is refreshingly original and shows four guys pulling together with their combined creativity. At 3 minutes 43 seconds it’s an immediate shot in the arm with plenty going; with its smouldering start, harshly delivery vocal, the track builds and builds with is gang-style harmonies and decent guitar solo. The band show themselves as having some great prospects for the future with this fine debut.
