Frontwoman Wendy James was in fine voice and appeared genuinely thrilled to be back on stage, bringing all the energy, attitude and charisma that made her one of the defining figures of the era. From the moment the band launched into their set, there was a real sense of excitement in the room, with fans clearly delighted to see Transvision Vamp back where they belong.

Joining James was original bassist Dave Parsons, alongside a hand-picked line-up of new talent. Alex Ward and Pip Stakem shared guitar and vocal duties, while the hard-hitting James Sclavunos provided the driving beat behind the kit. Local resident Matt Millership completed the line-up on keyboards and vocals, adding piano and keys that brought another dimension to the band’s sound.

The audience were treated to a superb selection of tracks spanning the band’s first three albums, alongside a few numbers from Wendy James’ solo career. The set included the chart hits *I Want Your Love* and *Baby I Don’t Care*, as well as the band’s debut single, *Revolution Baby*. These much-loved songs were brought back to life with impressive performances, capturing the spirit, sound and infectious energy that made them so popular in the first place.

Opening the evening, Liverpool punk trio Yee Loi wasted no time in getting the energy flowing. The two sisters and their brother delivered a lively, punk-fuelled set of original material, punctuated by a couple of unconventional covers that certainly kept the audience on their toes. Their spirited performance went down well with the crowd, and the trio undoubtedly left with a few new fans of their own.

It was a memorable night from start to finish, with Yee Loi setting the tone for an evening of high-energy music before Transvision Vamp took centre stage and delivered the goods.

For a band whose songs remain so firmly embedded in the memories of their fans, this was a welcome and thoroughly enjoyable return. Wendy James and company proved that the attitude and appeal of Transvision Vamp have lost none of their power, leaving around 500 people with plenty to celebrate and a timely reminder that some songs never go out of fashion.
