Every so often a band comes along hits you clean between the eyes and completely blows you off your feet. Hampshire 5 piece band Dead! did exactly that to me the first time I saw them live and each time since they have continued to captivate me. The youth, innocence and the everlasting amounts of energy remind me of when first saw the Manic Street Preachers back in the early 90’s at the Joiners in Southampton, looking like a 90’s version of The Clash.

The brainchild of Ian Mortimer, Skin For A Canvas – one-man acoustic ambient project – tries to deliver something to the ears of its listeners. What it tries to deliver though, I’m not too sure. Don’t get me wrong, the album is good.

In December 2011 Steel Panther opened up on the huge UK arena tour featuring metal heavy weights Def Leppard and Motley Crue each night the venues were unusually full early on as fans wanted to check them out, it was rumoured that both Def Leppard and Motley Crue were a little worried at the prospect of following the mighty “Steel Panther”.

Hard hitting metal bands seem to be spawning more frequently at late on the south coast, as Griever have recently emerged as one of the latest bands this year to skate on the thin ice of the Dorset metal scene. After a series of support slots to bands such as Brotherhood of the Lake, radio play for their first singles and a growing fan base, this EP has received a decent amount of hype building up to its release.
