CD:”Sounds Like…” by Adam Scholey

Adam Scholey – Former Sonority of a Home Studio 2005-2012 album Review

Adam Scholey

When this 20 track “compendium” came my way I decided to give it a good few listens, knowing Adam as I do from local luminaries Damnation Alley, and more recently the frankly underrated Voice of Reason. Putting your material “out there” so to speak is brave, especially 20 tracks.

EP: “I’m Sure Someone Mentioned A Cheque” by Midday Committee

Midday Committee

The first thing you need to know about Midday Committee is that they are “hard working”, as the four piece pop punk band from Portsmouth have gained a hearty following after a mere year and a half as a band. Their first EP “Nice Kids, Bad Judge of Character!” will definitely be named as a reason behind their quick success, as a collection of promising hard edged pop punk tunes beckoned this band to greater things. This time round, the band have gone all out to ensure their EP upholds the quality of their song writing.

Video: “Going Down” By Western Sand

Western Sand

Of all of the bands gigging around Bournemouth at the moment, one of the best and one that has bags of potential is the Hard/Southern Rock outfit called Western Sand. Not only are they an extremely likeable bunch but they produce some kick ass classic rock riffage and put on a killer live show!

Ataraxis Vibration EP review

Ataraxis

The debut EP by interestingly named Bath Rockers Ataraxis Vibration has fallen into the hands of Rock Regeneration-so what do we think? Opening with “Nothing Lasts Forever” is a good start (to this reviewer), as it doesn’t pack the obvious “Hendrix-isms” of other songs on here.

CD: “Sanguine” by Sanguine

Sanguine

Wow, having been listening to a ton of Doom Metal recently its mega refreshing to have an album like this land on my desk. Sanguine are a female fronted four-piece from the Southwest and are currently kicking up a ruckus on the UK music scene. Having had a slot on the Jagermeister stage at this year’s Download and a support with the mighty Megadeth, things are really starting to take off for them.

Blink 182/All American Rejects/The Blackout

Bournemouth International Centre

Blink 182

It would be a fairly valid comment to say that tonight’s show at the BIC has been the most anticipated event Bournemouth will see this year. As I approached the venue it was obvious who’s in town; pop punk pioneers and worldwide icons, Blink 182. As the queue to enter the Windsor Hall loops round every possible pillar and stairway, a plethora of smiles and excited glances provokes an undeniable buzz before any music has even started.

CD: “More Than Ever” By The Blues Machine

The Blues Machine

It seems as though my immune system has failed me. Bedridden for the second time in a week, and I’m not enjoying it.

I’ve tried sleep, food, water and antibiotics, and yet I’m still feeling awful… although I may be over exaggerating to my family, somehow it’s a bit far fetched that I have ebola crossed with TB and dysentery.

However, in the meantime, I’ve found a way of soothing my pain. The Blues Machine.

CD: “Trials” by Mutiny On The Bounty

Mutiny On the Bounty

Instead of following the usual schematic of band bios let’s ask the opinion of someone experienced, Matt Bayles for example. He not only produced “Trials”, the second album of MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY, but also records by ISIS, MASTODON, RUSSIAN CIRCLES, THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES, THE FALL OF TROY or BOTCH. We can then legitimately assume he knows what he’s talking about. “MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY plays technical and accessible indie rock, somewhere between MINUS THE BEAR and THE BLOOD BROTHERS with some elements of post-rock”.
