Hot Vamp Club

As I entered Champions, I was hit by a heat wave as I saw a flood of indie kids spread across the venue. Hot Vamp Club are the headliners and they have come a long way in the few years they have been a band. They recently spent six months in the studio to produce their first EP, ‘I Dream of Fires’ which is popping up on iTunes and being sold at shows with only one hundred hard copies produced.

Kids Can’t Fly/Mimi Soya/This Fall/The Bottom Line

Champions, Bournemouth

Kids Can’t Fly and Mimi Soya are two of the most promising upcoming pop punk bands in the UK at the moment and Champions was the last stop on their joint UK tour this month. The bands both originate from the South of England with Kids Can’t Fly emerging from Southampton and Mimi Soya originating in Brighton, which meant that the night had a very local feel to it, despite the obvious talent of the two headliners.

Chaplins Cellar bar, Boscombe, Bournemouth

Hell yeah, I’d been looking forward to seeing these guys play an extended show and I was lucky enough to have been invited to the launch of their debut album ‘Truckload Of Trouble’ at the Cellar Bar in Boscombe.

The Frequency/The Push/Kings Of Hearts/Lauren Bannen

The Winchester, Bournemouth

Its Friday night at The Winchester and it’s launch night for The Frequency’s debut single ‘High Society’. But what about the supports you ask me? Due to a late line-up re-shuffle Lauren Bannen is tonight’s opener. This reviewer is predictably late so misses her performance. Nevertheless, I’m reliably informed she gives a great performance.

Funeral For A Friend/Rise To Remain/Tiger Please

The Old Fire Station, Bouremouth

First it was a venue change, then a date change; I was starting to think this gig might not happen. Luckily for me and all that were in attendance, Funeral For A Friend did grace the stage of The Old Fire Station in Bournemouth with support from Tiger Please and Rise To Remain. From the moment I walked in I could see the venue was packed and previously I’ve had my reservations about The Old Fire Station as a good gig venue and what better test than to have a trio of rock bands tear up the stage.

Tony Butler Interview (Big Country)

Portsmouth Pyramid Centre

Tony Butler of Big Country interview chats with Chinners.

Big Country are a band that together with the likes of U2, Simple Minds and The Alarm dominated the 80’s rock music scene with their big anthems, melodic guitars and passionate heartfelt lyrics. After the death of their leader Stuart Adamson in 2001 the band have regrouped with the The Alarm’s Mike Peters taking on Stuart’s duties in a respectful dignified way.

Big Country/Mike Marlin/The Crowns

Portsmouth Pyramids

At a U2 gig in 1983 Bono described Big Country and The Alarm as the “new breed”, two bands that bucked the trend of the electronic music of the time and stuck to melodic guitar rock which they delivered in a passionate way. After Big Country’s Stuart Adamson’s untimely death in 2001, the rest of the band took a prolonged hiatus while coming to terms with the loss of their prestigious leader.

Champions, Bournemouth

Tonight Champions played host for the first of three gigs for an old Bournemouth band, back from when the Gander and Mr. Smiths were the primary live music venue for some of us. This is the first Poze gig in 10 years, and billed as “The Exxhumation 2011”, with special consideration for the charity UK Brain Tumour, in memory of Janine.
