Traffic Cone Wizard

On a warm Summers evening we await the of tonight’s 4 bands. Debut gig farers Traffic Cone Wizard (TCW) take to the stage. They comprise ex Pikey & the Gutter Rats members Stu (keys/vox) & Jason (vox/bass), Gutter Rat Damian (drums) & Sepia Daze’s Jordan (guitar). This being their debut gig they are showcasing new material & a few covers. Champions on tonight’s evidence is sparse so applause is limited early on but after two originals TCW do their take on possibly the finest b-side ever written-Tubeway Army’s ‘We Are So Fragile’ which does not disappoint. The intro is different but they make a decent fist of it.

CD: “Cold Lust” by Til Dusk

Til Dusk have recently supplied us a copy of their album, “Cold Lust”, and it proves to be a very interesting listen.

From its opening track, “In This Place”, there are a variety of things going on. My initial impression was Duran Duran within the first few seconds. Not what I expected when first playing the album. But as the album progresses they certainly have a sound which seems to draw on various sounds, predominatly, from the eighties.

Old Fire Station, Bournemouth

So the Slam Dunk Festival is happening tonight just down the M27 Motorway in Southampton, I don’t think though that is an big enough excuse for just around 50 or so people to be in the audience tonight,. The Old Fire Station is one of Bournemouth’s larger music venues, regularly hosting top bands. To be honest it is very disappointing that this show has not been promoted as well it should have been and as well as the bands deserve.

Slamdunk By The Sea, Southampton Guildhall

Where do I start! Slam Dunk Festival seems to amaze me every year with a line-up to ripen the taste buds of any music fan with metal, hardcore, punk and rap combined to create one of the best one day festivals in the world. With the ridiculous amount of demand the festival brings each year for the North and South editions, an expansion was once again agreed and Birmingham and Southampton were selected to host a show with four of the bands from the festival. Less Than Jake who headlined Slam Dunk this year, along with Reel Big Fish were joined by Anti-Flag, Goldfinger and Set Your Goals.

Interview May 2011

Dorset Music Awards winners Fearnes’ feet have not really touched the ground since picking up the converted trophy at the O2 Academy in April. They were well deserving winners on the night and the crowd were right behind them after pulling out a top class performance. The band’s bass player Nick Bryson and drummer Darren Barret have taken well earned holidays. Vocalist Alex Beds and guitarist Adam Pulfer have invited us along to talk about all that is going on in the world of Fearne, promising to end the interview with a couple of exclusive acoustic new tracks.

Champions, Bournemouth

The Rock Regeneration website was started originally because of a post that was put on the Dorset Rock Online website on the day before it closed it doors.

http://www.dorsetrockonline.com/?p=6477

The post was by Rapids front man Matt Holliday who felt that the closure of the site was the death knell for the music scene in Bournemouth, after the amazing night at the Dorset Rock Online Birthday bash at Champions he felt that it was a shame that the momentum could not be continued.
