Champions, Bournemouth

Tonight Miles Hunt and Erica Nockells of the mighty band The Wonder Stuff were supposed to be gracing the stage at Champions. However a last minute phone call from the band’s manager to the venue’s promoter stated that they had cancelled at very short notice. As it was a Friday night and a decent crowd was expected, the Champion’s staff hastily turned things around and arranged free entry gig and for the three pre-arranged supports acts to provide the evenings entertainment.

2011 is the 25th Anniversary of the death of Ireland’s most famous ‘Rocker’ Phil Lynott who has become one of rocks most famous icons. He formed the band Thin Lizzy in Dublin in 1969 and the remaining members of the band Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and Darren Wharton have regrouped to mark the Anniversary with a new line up to bring the legacy of Phil Lynott to a whole new generation of rock fans. The line-up has been bolstered by Marco Mendoza(Bass), Def Leppard’s Viv Campbell(Guitar) and Belfast born Ricky Warwick of ‘The Almighty’ has been given the honoured task of singing the lead vocals. The band arrive in Southampton as part of the virtually ‘Sold Out’ 14 date tour of the UK which is also set to go to major cities in Europe during the coming months.
After Christmas when money is too tight to mention, an offer of free entry to a gig at Mr Kyps before 9pm is an offer too good to refuse especially if the headliners are Dorset Music Awards finalists ‘Lady Winwoods Maggot’. The four piece death western specialists are promoting their recently released and impressive album ‘Buffalohead’ which combines a complete mix of styles making for very interesting listening experience.
