Matt Underdown

Local troubadour Matt Underdown is set to release the 2nd single from his forthcoming EP, The Darkest Place on 3rd July. The single is titled “Ghost” and was written while taking a Covid-19 virus-induced break from fronting his Rock band Erica Drive. The song touches on the subjects of depression, feeling trapped and feeling lost. Matt explains “Ghost for me is a big departure from my previous releases, I had a set of lyrics I wanted to put to music and sat down and wrote it on a piano, which is a totally new experience for me and the guitar was the next part added for a change. The song has an incredibly powerful meaning for me but I hope it lets people know that no matter how bad it gets; no matter how useless you may feel, you should never give up.”

This new collection of songs is the follow-up to Matt’s debut solo album Hope, which was released back in 2016. The new single shows Matt digging deep into his creative soul, producing an energising piece of music which draws from personal experience. It has a beautiful uplifting spirit at the heart of it with Matt’s powerful vocal at the centre, which is surrounded by some well put together instrumentation. It makes for possibly one of the best tunes he’s created and gives plenty of expectation for the EP to follow.
