Emerging out of Bournemouth is a new alternative band who claim to feature heavy Punk/Rock influences with further elements of Doom and Black Metal. The quartet are called Butcher The Butcher featuring local musician JC Lord who has featured in some quite different bands over the years, the zany off the wall Jaycee Jesus and acoustic duo Harper & Edwards. The band have been recording at River Studios in Totton near Southampton, producing their debut EP. The first results from these recording sessions are their debut track entitled “445”, which is to be unleashed on all streaming platforms on 9th February.

Butcher The Butcher

The track opens powerfully with driving bass and guitar, before a long bellowing scream joins and introduces the vocals which are commandingly gruff and in your face. The instrumentation with the constant unrelenting drums and bursts of melodic guitar match the mood of the vocal. Three quarters of the way through we are treated to a guitar solo that smoulders initially before showing a wonderfully creative side. The lyrics are dominating and authoritative, giving the track a really original feel making it sound like nothing else out there. There are influences from a wide spectrum of genres and the band have used these to carve out their own style. There’s always room for a new alternative band on the local scene and I’m very much looking forward to hearing the rest of the tracks from the new EP soon.
