Joe Grange is a musician who has gained experiences across the local music scene performing with bands including Greyside and Cherry Lotus and has also worked with solo artists Benji Taylor & George Kingman. He has also worked closely with the We Broke Free team at 60 Million postcards in Bournemouth, putting on and promoting live music events.

This month sees the release of the debut “Komorebi” single for Joe’s solo project Subsolar. The project sees this musician combine all the knowledge and experience he has garnered together, to deliver a unique sounding number. Komorebi is a Japanese word for the dappled sunlight that filters through the leaves of trees. There is no single English word to describe this specific phenomenon of light and shadow.

Joe explains “this song is the direct result of Eternal Sunshine reshaping my outlook on situations in my own life – coming to terms with my Dad’s passing and accepting the end of a long-term relationship during that same time period. This newfound perspective gave me a deeper understanding of how the good and bad have to naturally co-exist in life; how it’s important to embrace and accept, rather than run from the pain the follows when you lose something, or someone you really cared about. I’ve tried to capture that acceptance in the music and overall feeling of Komorebi, holding space for both joy and heartbreak and letting that tension shape the emotional and cinematic arc of the song”.

The track is a beautifully atmospheric modern sounding piece, with Joe’s guitar work excelling as he always has done on his previous work. Check out “Fake Leather Attitude’ by Cherry Lotus for a further example of this. Also unveiled is some velvety soft vocals that flow together with expansive ethereal melodies.
