Less Than Jake/The Skints/The Bots

Less Than jake

On a muggy Wednesday evening I arrive early to catch the 2 supports for ska/punks finest Less Than Jake. Enter on stage the somewhat youthful two-piece that is The Bots. Brothers Mikaiah and Anaiah take to the stage with minimal fuss before opening their set in a slightly nervous manner. We can forgive them this at the tender ages of 18 and 15 respectively! What they deliver is a mash-up of styles but I wouldn’t want to liken them to any one band. There will be the obvious White Stripes comparison but they are a band with power and ability over confidence.

The Enemy

The Enemy announce live dates including a stop at Southampton Guildhall on the 21st October 2012 and they will release a new single “Like A Dancer” on 16th July from their third album “Streets in the Sky”, which charted at #9, out now. The band will also be headlining one of the nights at Somerset House Summer Series on 13th July. “Like A Dancer”, which is the follow-up to the bands first single “Saturday”, and free download release “Gimme The Sign”, is a melodic, indie pop anthem with heavy guitars backed by harmonious keys and Tom’s demanding sing-a-long vocals. It is insanely catchy and is most definitely a summer festival anthem which will have fans belting out the chorus en masse.

Kill The Conversation

Dorchester based “Kill The Conversation” have just released their second EP “Farewell For the Last Time” this 5 track onslaught that is not for the feint hearted. Having shared the stage with the likes of Sepultura, Rise To Remain, amongst others, they seem to be setting themselves on a path that will not take any prisoners. To quote “Southern Metal Nuts Kill The Conversation drop their ball-breaking new EP Farewell For The Last Time. Merging intense brutality and absorbing dynamics, it’s a forceful piece of real engaging metal.”

William Control

If you aren’t yet aware of the huge impact William Control is making, you must be living under a rock; the kind of rock exploding in synths, and covered in black lace.

Driving down the road on the 15th June, it was obvious which building was Southampton Joiners as the mass of people in black, red and grey seemed to be a dark luminous signpost defining that this was indeed the venue that William Control was playing at that evening.

Midway Still

If in the 90’s you were fans of bands such as Mega City Four, Neds Atomic Dustbin and Senseless Things you cannot have failed to come across Midway Still. After only performing 8 gigs the band were subject of plenty of record company interest after a favourable review in Melody Maker, they finally signed to Fire Records subsidiary Roughneck. The band set off on huge tours in Europe with Therapy, Mega City Four, Leatherface and Snuff to name but a few.
