Thomas Tripp, Christchurch

The Frequency

On a cold Sunday night in Christchurch The Thomas Tripp is packed to the rafters. After missing a couple of local acoustic acts I head for the front to catch my (2nd) favourite local band. Having witnessed/promoted The Frequency almost from their early beginnings I’ve come to see if they cut it in the acoustic arena. I needn’t have worried-on this performance the futures bright. They open with “Sticky Little Finger” and “Run With You” before they dedicate their “guilty pleasure” cover just for me with the Stereophonics “Dakota”.

O2 Academy, Bournemouth,

Stereophonics

In what was the one of the busiest nights of the year at Bournemouth’s O2 Academy and the reason was that top Welsh rock band the Stereophonics were in Town for a special one off show as a warm up for a 3 night Christmas run at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London. There are no new releases to promote as their bands last album was 2009 “Keep Calm and Carry On”. The emphasis on the evening was for the band to let their hair down and have some fun. Tonight’s hand picked support was the “Broken Vinyl Club” from Aberdare in South Wales. The four piece strode out on to the stage and confidently performed a set of 60ís inspired material along the lines of iconic 60’s bands such as The Beatles, The Byrds, and The Kinks.

Mr Kyps, Poole

From The Jam

A wet Thursday evening at Mr. Kyps is the intimate setting for a gig of true quality from none other than ‘From The Jam’, featuring original member of The Jam bassist Bruce Foxton, along with Big Country’s Mark Brzezicki and top class vocalist Russell Hastings . Lewis sings the Sound of the Suburbs has the prviledge of kicking off the evening, Lewis is a very well know face on the local music scene and knows exactly how to warm up a crowd like this, songs such as The Specials “Too Much, Too Young”, and The Buzzocks “Ever Fallen In Love” have the right effect in preparing everybody for the night ahead

Champions, Bournemouth

It’s that time of year again, the sleigh bells are ringing, chestnuts are roasting on an open fire and Jack Frost is nipping at your nose, ahh…

If you have already had enough of children screeching carols at you whilst you freeze your baubles off and all the typical festive cheer then come and enjoy some alternative Christmas celebrations at Champions in Bournemouth.

Featuring more talent than you could ever stuff in a stocking, the party will feature some of the best up and coming talent on the alternative music scene. At just £4 for an advance ticket (which is probably less than you had to pay for that oh so hilarious secret Santa present), this should be the one gift you treat yourself to this year.

Deadlines

After their debut EP “The First Collapse” sold out all of its hard copies, on their debut UK tour with Swindon giants “I Defy”, Deadlines have every right to approach 2012 with a big grin on their faces. What was next for them? Well luckily they didn’t wait until the New Year to progress their popularity and released their new single “The Road to Whiterun” which gained an impressive 100 plays in only an hour since its release. The Southampton based metalcore band have only been running since May this year, yet they are already shaking the ground of the UK metal scene with their intense live shows and already brilliantly organised sound.

We Used To Exist

We Used To Exist have literally made a continental effort to record their debut album “The Lights May Still Show”, as the indie-pop duo’s members, Timothy Lalonde and Dean Rostron originate from Virginia, USA and Sydney, Australia respectively. Currently residing in Berlin, Germany, the two piece band has only officially been running since September 2011, which is remarkable considering the experienced sound which they produce.

Wembley Arena, London

Def Leppard/Motley Crue

It now seems common place now for a promoter to put two headline bands on at large arenas, in these times of recession is almost makes sense as it gives the fans better value for money and the promoter a better chance of selling out the larger venues. Tonight London’s world famous Wembley Arena plays host to two heavy weights from the world of rock, it is almost like a world title fight England vs. USA.
