Bournemouth iBar

I am notorious for arriving at a gig much too early and having to stand around trying to look cool whilst waiting for things to get going. Tonight I decided that I had enough of that and I got to iBar just as the first band, Dirty Jerkers, were about to start.

Tellison- The Wages of Fear- Album Review

This year has seen a large number of bands working their way into our hearts already, and I think I have found yet another band that is bursting with potential and about to sky rocket through this summer. Tellison, a four piece indie rock band from London, have been causing quite a stir this year with the release of their second studio album, The Wages of Fear. With their first album receiving steady praise, it was no surprise that their second offering was going to be fuelled with excitement to see where they stood. Luckily, they rose above expectations and have been championed by the likes of Rock Sound and Kerrang recently.

Jeff Beck

O2 Academy, Bournemouth

To say Jeff Beck is a talented guitarist would be an understatement, to say he is a talented composer would not do the man justice and to say he puts on a good show…would be something I couldn’t really comment before Saturday night. I’ve never seen him live before, whether on TV, in concert, at festivals or even on YouTube, so I had no expectations going into this gig. Instrumental rock/blues isn’t big on the radio or anything, however Beck has a loyal following which I noticed right away by the queue out of the O2 Academy doors.

Futures/Lower Than Atlantis/Out For Tomorrow

iBar, Bournemouth

I was rather excited about this line up, the kind of excited that ended up with me getting to the venue much too early and having the slightly surreal experience of joining an actual queue outside iBar. However there were lots of other people queuing as well, either because they were also excited, or because the tickets they were clutching stated that doors would open at 7. I heard some whisperings outside that Pegasus Bridge had pulled out due to an illness so I asked the friendly doorman what time the doors were due to open He told me around 8, so I wondered off to get myself a cocktail, which seemed a good way to start the night!

Sound Circus, Bournemouth

What with a little festival called Download going on, I wasn’t expecting Sound Circus to be particularly busy, but there were a few enthusiastic souls that made it along on a rather gloomy night.

CD: “Where Else Is Safe But The Road?” by CubaCuba

on June 10th, 2011 at 06:37
Posted In: CD, Reviews, George

Cuba Cuba is a five piece pop rock band from Cardiff, who spent their last summer in the studio to produce their first studio album under current label, Walnut Tree Records. After seeing the band live last year, I have been highly anticipating their first effort at a studio album and with their album being mixed by Tristan Ivemy (Frank Turner / The Holloways), they were able to flourish and express their angular pop rock anthems. With such a diverse sound, it’s no wonder they have shared the stage with acts such as Friendly Fires, The Airbourne Toxic Event, The Joy Formidable, Funeral for a Friend and Attack! Attack!

The Brook, Southampton

After two successful comeback tours under their belts, Big Country with The Alarm’s front man Mike Peters at the helm look to have made a come back with some style, throughout the summer the band have been booked to play a host of Festivals including a slot at Scotland’s T-In the Park and Ireland’s Oxegen Festival. Tonight’s gig is a rather intimate affair billed as a warm up for their next day’s performance at the world famous Isle Of Wight Festival. The venue is completely Sold out with all of the £22 tickets being snapped up soon after they went on sale, also there is an additional promise of the band airing some new material, the 1st they have written with this line up.

The Old Fire Station, Bournemouth

In stark contrast to the Yashin gig here last week when there were only around 50 people. Tonight there are around 350 excited fans all looking forward to an intimate gig by Las Vegas post-hardcore rockers ‘Escape The Fate’ who have chosen the Old Fire Station as the venue to provide a warm up for their performance at the Donnington Download Festival where they will sharing the main stage with Avenged Sevenfold and the mighty System of A Down.
