April the 15th and two American bands, Red Fang and Black Tusk took huge bites into Southampton’s music scene, pun intended. They topped the bill at The Joiners Pub and it was also a debut gig for Bournemouth based outfit In The Hills.

Having listened to a lot of ambient music and soundtracks, enjoying the work of Tangerine Dream, and Jean Michel Jarre, to name the obvious, it was with intrigue I played “Throw The Sun In To The Sea” by Rob Johnson Music, especially as it is the first completely instrumental album we have received, and therefore the first time I have had to consider reviewing one!

Friday 13th, the classic “unlucky” day was put to shame when Bournemouth venue On The Rocks put on a gig with Ashestoangels headlining with support from Cherishport, Tom Calvert, Ordering Chaos, C-30s and Dead, which was no doubt a brilliant night – and even black cats, walking under ladders and opening umbrellas inside wasn’t going to change that.

Preview: The Cult announce new single “For The Animals”

Having previously announced details of their brand new album “Choice of Weapon” The Cult have confirmed “For The Animals” will be the first single released from the record, out now. There will also be a very limited picture 7″ available for Record Store Day on 21st April (http://www.recordstoreday.co.uk). The band have also confirmed five UK shows for September 2012 which will see them play to in excess of 40,000 fans.

The Sun Explodes, a 5-piece heavy rock band from Cumbria, are capable of that, which their music that stretches from heavy metal, to synth rock, to metalcore, to alternative rock completed with techno sounds, powerful screams and crushing riffs.

COLT45, a three-piece rock/punk band from Cumbria have recently returned to the studio after recording 2011’s EP ‘Chasing Yesterday’ to record with Romesh Dodangoda (Motorhead, The Blackout, Kids In Glass Houses, ect), and are going to return with a bang with their pop-punk sound, laced with rebellion, edginess, big hooks and big riffs.
