Minor Characters

Bournemouth’s “Minor Characters” are a band that has been bought together through the great community that surrounds the local Bournemouth music scene. The band had their first ever live outing back in August at Chaplin’s Cellar Bar in Boscombe. They feature Martin Ruddock on guitar/vocals (Hipster/Mirrorball), Angus Rudd on guitar/vocals (Henry’s Photograph, Brave Mariner, Powdered Cows) with Ed Pope on bass (Mutant Vinyl, Cellar Creeps, Country Hospital), and Paul “Dixie” Harley who were both bought in for the live performance. The band have just released their new debut 9 track album “First”.

CD: “Times of Conflict” by Codejak

Codejak

Where to start? These Northern chaps won “Best Band” Award & “Best Song” Award in the Cumbria Music Awards in December 2009, and now they have released “Times Of Conflict”. This album is a cracking slice of hard rock with its husky, almost sleazy vocals, and even better the album is easy to get into without being commercial or a sell out. Not mention being dark and a little bit twisted!!!

Earthtone9/In The Hills/Muddy Miles

Earthtone9

I seem to be in the habit of missing the first band on at the moment, so no comment on Greenhorn. Second band on were brand new record label Compulsion Records first signing Muddy Miles. They did a progressive set with atmospheric guitars and random vocals. In my opinion they overdosed a shade on the reverb during a couple of songs. I’m sure their recorded output will sound great but in the live setting it was a bit to overblown and plodding for my liking.

Gwyn Ashton

I am lucky. I get to listen to a lot of music, (well not if you ask the missus, as I am sure she thinks some of it is just noise), and you get to recongnise names across the genres. However, you also get to miss a lot of artists and bands (cue hails of derision). Especially if you don’t always read the sleeve notes and liners.

SjW

One of the joys of running a music web-site is you get music! (watch me join the dots here!) Sometimes too much lands on your desk, and it is hard to get through it all. Sometimes you get good, and sometimes you get bad. Thankfully here at RockRegen, we get more good than bad! So here we have “Moments of Magnitude” the third release by SjW, who hail from London, driven by Simon White who is also the songwriter and lyricist for the group.

Eden In Vain

So, my long awaited (I wish) return to reviewing has finally come. After being tied down this Summer playing 41 shows with my band Willowen, I thought it was time to put fingers to keyboard once more. On my return, I have decided to shed some light on the upcoming release by Portsmouth based, metal laced (that rhymed) hardcore outfit, Eden In Vain.
