The Dollyrots

If you get off on fun, outspoken punk rock with a welcome tinge of pop, then you’d look foolish not to have bumped into The Dollyrots, an eccentric duo from Los Angeles. Despite their youthful outlook, this new self titled album is their fourth record since the band formed in 2009. This year seems to be lining up as their best yet, as their new album was virtually funded by their fans through a Pledge campaign and they also have a UK/US tour with Bowling For Soup set to follow later this year.

Kings Park, Bournemouth

Boscombe Community Fair 2012

The non profit festival has been running successfully for 17 years giving everybody in the local area that chance to kick back and enjoy some late autumn sunshine along with a host of great local bands, the incident caused by one very inconsiderate individual spoilt what was otherwise a perfect weekend. The huge team of volunteers who have worked hard for several months organising and setting things up to make sure everything went smoothly. The festival is aimed at all of the family providing free fun for children with arts, crafts, circus skills, a special percussion area where anyone can have a try with African drums and all manor of musical instruments.

Near Light

Near Light have a new self-titled EP recently released. This 4 piece from Bournemouth describe themselves as “post rock” – now I am never to sure what “post” means when tagged on a genre. I assume it means newer, not quite the same, something has progressed, moved on, or evolved.

Minor Characters

Bournemouth’s “Minor Characters” are a band that has been bought together through the great community that surrounds the local Bournemouth music scene. The band had their first ever live outing back in August at Chaplin’s Cellar Bar in Boscombe. They feature Martin Ruddock on guitar/vocals (Hipster/Mirrorball), Angus Rudd on guitar/vocals (Henry’s Photograph, Brave Mariner, Powdered Cows) with Ed Pope on bass (Mutant Vinyl, Cellar Creeps, Country Hospital), and Paul “Dixie” Harley who were both bought in for the live performance. The band have just released their new debut 9 track album “First”.

CD: “Times of Conflict” by Codejak

Codejak

Where to start? These Northern chaps won “Best Band” Award & “Best Song” Award in the Cumbria Music Awards in December 2009, and now they have released “Times Of Conflict”. This album is a cracking slice of hard rock with its husky, almost sleazy vocals, and even better the album is easy to get into without being commercial or a sell out. Not mention being dark and a little bit twisted!!!
