Midway Still

If in the 90’s you were fans of bands such as Mega City Four, Neds Atomic Dustbin and Senseless Things you cannot have failed to come across Midway Still. After only performing 8 gigs the band were subject of plenty of record company interest after a favourable review in Melody Maker, they finally signed to Fire Records subsidiary Roughneck. The band set off on huge tours in Europe with Therapy, Mega City Four, Leatherface and Snuff to name but a few.

The Idiot B*stard Band is a band dedicated to the comic song. A veritable supergroup of comic musical talent, they see themselves in the same tradition as people like The Bonzos, They Might Be Giants, Flight of the Conchords, and even George Formby.

Talking Heads, Southampton

Wheatus

After a vexed past, The Talking Heads put aside previous memories of the venue’s misfortune and financial struggles to make way for arguably the juiciest lineup the venue has seen in a while. The ever popular Wheatus are back with previous tour buddy MC Lars to make sure their reputations as established UK touring acts remain intact. It is worth mentioning that when this venue is packed out, it is an amazing sight; we should make sure this happens more often!

New Model Army

Cult rock legends, New Model Army celebrated the first weekend with their new bassist, Ceri Monger with a festival warm-up gig at Robin 2 in Bilston, Wolverhampton last Saturday 2nd June.

Unfortunately their van was broken into that night in the carpark outside the Walsall Holiday Inn Express, and a large number of items were stolen. With gear borrowed from other groups, the band still managed to perform at Strummercamp the following day.

NOFX/UK Subs/Margate

O2 Academy, Bournemouth

NoFX

It’s the Queens Jubilee so what better way to spend the evening listening to 3 Punk bands. First up are recent recruits to the NOFX stable Margate. Margate are an American 3 piece Punk band who cite some diverse influences. To this reviewer theres a definite nod towards Blink 182, especially with their humour and between song banter. They surprise most in this audience with a cover of the Police’s “Synchronicity” which they do rather well, cut between slabs of their own material. While they dont greatly excite me they receive good applause from this half full venue.
